Ornidazole tablet is an antibiotic medicine that helps your body fight infections caused by bacteria and parasites. It is used to treat infections of the liver, stomach, intestines, vagina,brain,heart,lungs,andskin.Ornidazole tablet helps prevent an infection after surgery. It is also used in the treatment of dental infections, leg ulcers, and pressure sores. This medicine is best taken after eating some food. It should be taken at the same time each day to get the most benefit. The amount you are advised will depend on what you are being treated for and how bad it is, but you should take this antibiotic exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better after a short time but do not stop taking it until you have finished a full course of treatment, even if you feel well. If you stop taking it early, some bacteria may survive, and the infection may come back. Do not drink any alcohol while taking this medicine and for a few days after stopping it. Otherwise, you may get unpleasant side effects like nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.

Pharmacokinetic characteristics of ornidazole was compared in man. This drug was labelled with C in the imidazole ring at position 2. Four healthy volunteers were given an oral dose of 750 mg of this drug. Results may be summarized as follows: mean peak concentrations in the plasma of 10.9 μg/ml for ornidazole was reached 2–4 h and 30–60 min after administration, respectively; this drugshowed the same volume of distribution. It’s binding to human plasma proteins was less than 15%; the mean half-life of elimination from the plasma was 14.4 h for ornidazole; the mean radioactivity recovered from the urine and faeces during the first 5 days was 85% of the dose for ornidazole, the major proportion in each case being excreted in the urine; the radioactivity found in the faeces was 22.1% of the dose for ornidazole.
