Composition : Febuxostat Tablets 80 mg
Febuxostat Tablet is a medicine used to treat and prevent gout. Gout happens when there is too much uric acid in your body and it forms into crystals which can appear around your joints leading to painful and swollen joints. This medicine helps to keep uric acid levels low. Febuxostat Tablet can be taken with or without food. You should keep taking it as recommended by your doctor even when you are not having a gout attack.
Febuxostat is indicated for the treatment of chronic hyperuricaemia in conditions where urate deposition has already occurred (including a history, or presence of, tophus and/or gouty arthritis). Febuxostat is indicated in adults.
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the following excipients : Lactose monohydrate, pregelatinized starch and croscarmellose sodium.
Side Effects :
- Increased liver enzymes
Febuxostat (ULORIC) is a novel, xanthine oxidase/dehydrogenase (XO/XDH) inhibitor being developed by Teijin, TAP Pharmaceuticals, and Ipsen for the treatment of gout. The currently available XO inhibitor, allopurinol, has been associated with serious instances of severe hypersensitivity, in some cases leading to fatalities. There is some suggestion that febuxostat is less prone to exacerbate systemic inflammatory events in animal studies.
Mechanism of action :
Febuxostat, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor, achieves its therapeutic effect by decreasing serum uric acid. Febuxostat is not expected to inhibit other enzymes involved in purine and pyrimidine synthesis and metabolism at therapeutic concentrations.
