Dropain M – Description
Dropain M – Drotaverine + Mefenamic acid, an anti-spasmodic drug, is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of spasmodic dysmenorrhoea, colic pains including ureteric, biliary and intestinal colic. This combination effectively treats muscular spasms, abdominal pain and menstrual cramps.
Composition: Drotaverine 80 MG + Mefenamic Acid 250 MG
Pharmacodynamics
Drotaverine:
Drotaverine inhibits the formation of phosphodiesterase-IV (PDE-4) which exerts contractile action in smooth muscles. The pharmacological action of Drotaverine is rapid and direct onto the smooth muscles present in the ureter and abdominal cavity. Direct inhibition of cyclic AMP (cAMP) results in correction of calcium levels at the spastic tissues and thereby alleviate smooth muscle spasm.
Mefenamic acid:
Mefenamic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that alleviates pain symptoms by inhibition of pain mediators associated with cyclooxygenase pathway.
Drotaverine Uses & working
Drotaverine is used for menstrual pain and abdominal pain. It relieves pain due to smooth muscle spasm like menstrual pain, pain due to kidney stone, pain due to biliary stone and gastro-intestinal colicky pain.
Drotaverine is an anti-spasmodic medicine which relieves contractions (spasms) associated with smooth muscles in the abdomen.
Mefenamic acid Uses & working
Mefenamic acid is used to treat mild to moderate pain and dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).
It’s approved to treat pain in people who are least 14 years old for no longer than seven days. It’s approved to treat menstrual cramps for no longer than two to three days.
Mefenamic acid belongs to a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs help reduce pain, inflammation, and fever.
It isn’t known how this medication works to decrease pain. It may help reduce swelling by lowering levels of prostaglandin, a hormone-like substance that usually causes inflammation.
